Designing for the Complete Journey: Expanding Lokate's Event Platform into an End-to-End mobile Experience
Overview
Lokate.Africa is an Event-finding application that connects users to the nearest events around their location, driven by AI, Lokate.Africa saw the gap that users faced when trying to find events, issues of proximity to the events, and having a robust event directory. Lokate.Africa uses AI to help users filter through events and suggest events based on their prompts. At the end of the day, the goal was to create an all-in-one experience for users.
Role
We were approached to design an intuitive platform that focuses on a seamless user experience. From product strategy to design execution, we developed a solution that expanded Lokate's business model beyond simple event listings into a comprehensive lifestyle platform, increasing potential revenue streams while solving real user problems around event accessibility.
Challenge
As a team, we were faced with the challenge of how users could quickly discover relevant events happening around them without feeling overwhelmed by too many options or unclear navigation.
Solution
To address these challenges, we focused on understanding the underlying user needs by ideating possible user flows based on the feedback from our user research and competitor analysis. This helped us focus on designing the right solutions:
Clear Onboarding & Location Permission Flow - Guide users through granting location access on first launch, explaining benefits (e.g., “Find events near you instantly”).
Personalised Filters & AI-Powered Suggestions - Leverage AI to reorder or highlight events based on the user’s past behaviour, stated preferences, or social signals. e.g., “Because you liked live concerts last week” or “Trending near you.”
Unified Booking Flow Pattern - Create a consistent “Book Now” modal across events, shortlets, and restaurants. Regardless of where the user taps, the modal should have a familiar, step-by-step process (date/time selection, confirmation, payment).
